How exactly do you get MSTS trains to run in SMR in the first place? You probably need to change both the DIFF files and the models.

Where can I find these add-ons? The only thing I found was something for 3Ds- and g-max.
Also, why not use the GS-6 tender rather than recolor the entire GS-4 tender?

For many of my reskins I only had to change the DIFF and possibly the NRML files, although on some of WingsofPheonix's mods I think it requires a modeling program, but I don't have one to test out my idea.

Have you applied the Tender Mod? it scales down the trains, and some trains have problems as a result(I had to re-install tenders due to giant traincars).

The 242 A1 comes with the Holiday Scenario, and you have to put it in France. Also the date is set at 1910, so if you want it in 1935 you have to put it there.
