Windows 8

I am still currently running Vista but I am thinking about installing Windows 8. Sid Meier's Railroads! is one of the few games I play. Has anyone tried running the game on this OS yet, and have they had any issues?

Does SMR! have issues with Windows 7?

Keyboard shortcuts and stuff...

I have recently learnt through 'having a play' that pressing + and - allows you to change the height of the track you are building. I have been playing the game for many months now, and have only just discovered this gem that will help me considerably. I was wondering what other titbits I have been ...

Re: Graphics Issues, High Specs, Low Performance & Watery Hills

Funny story... ... My graphics card had slipped into a safety mode, and has been running at absolute minimum levels since forever. Even with default settings, my system now tonks SMR at a very fast rate on 1680x1050 (native for me :-D). Boy do I feel dumb, but not so dumb, because I KNEW that it sho...

Re: Graphics Issues, High Specs, Low Performance & Watery Hills

I love this community/forum. People are here to actually help others. Thanks for the info on the card I was looking at. They had a nice ASUS one on ebuyer too. Asus 9500GT 1GB DDR2 DVI VGA HDMI PCI-E Graphics Card Not sure whether a dealer would have much specific knowledge on SMR, what cards do peo...

Re: Graphics Issues, High Specs, Low Performance & Watery Hills

I just successfully played a full game on Mesa Madness. It lagged a little more than my usual settings. I'd definately prefer a performance boost. I'm 90% sure my Vid Card is 512Mb, the only place I can think to look is DirectX Diagnostic Tool, which shows 'Approx. Total Memory 1647Mb' which is conf...

Re: Graphics Issues, High Specs, Low Performance & Watery Hills

After changing the shader settings, it started to lag noticeably, even after a restart. :-( My graphics card drivers are from March '10, I have DirectX 11 & I last did a windows update yesterday. I can't think of anything else I've done, nor anything else too do. I can lower the resolution, but it m...

Re: Graphics Issues, High Specs, Low Performance & Watery Hills

If that time frame is accurate, then the graphics card is still more modern than SMR, so surely I should be able to play it at better than minimum without lag. I noticed in one post on the forum 'I assume you know to only use a single processor' (close-enough quote). Is this something I should be in...

Graphics Issues, High Specs, Low Performance & Watery Hills

I run the game in 1280x960, with every option turned to low or off, as anything higher causes lag, despite me seemingly having a system significantly better than the minimum spec: Windows Vista 32-Bit Intel(R)Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66GHz NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT 4Gb of ram (3Gb enabler on) When I...

Re: Trains inexplicably turn around on my circular route. :-(

This game is enjoyable, but I can't help thinking that it is a dozen tweaks away from being a classic.

I've just played United Kingdom and made a point of ticking all the victory boxes, and [unless I'm missing something] it doesn't even save my achievement anywhere afterwards.

Re: Trains inexplicably turn around on my circular route. :-(

I read a lot more of that guide, it is very well put together. Thank you. I've tried with smaller circles, 1 train per circle, and that seems grand. I'd like a better way of knowing when to setup a new train so that it goes on the line I want. their is nothing more frustrating than expecting a train...

Re: Trains inexplicably turn around on my circular route. :-(

Thank you, that definately answers my query.

However, loop tracks are very common in the real world, and it was making a tidy sum :-(. Would changing the track difficulty to 'hard' force the train to wait without recalculating?

Trains inexplicably turn around on my circular route. :-(

I thought I had a perfect system, I had 6 cities in a near perfect circle, all wanting passengers and mail. So I set a train up to go around in a circle visiting each in turn, and it seemed to be building me a tidy profit. So I added a 2nd train and then a 3rd all in the same direction. It worked pe...
