I got the Basin & Range Trains/Cars working fine on the Utah map. Very impressive too. Now I'm trying to do the same thing for the Chicago scenario. I used the same files and just renamed them for the Chicago scenario. I added the goods cars that weren't included to make sure I have all the goods c...

I have the problem that the Basin and Range Scrapmetal cars dont want to unload in my Custom map  quite annoying dont know the solution I have seen this before where the train car won't animate properly. It was always caused by the wrong shader set in the model. I looked at the model but I sa...

Great work Atani and Warll and everyone involved with SMRI! This creates new excitement for the game and an organized baseline for future maps and mods, and just in time for the Fall/Winter months as more of us (including myself) will be returning to work on and play Railroads!

Alive and well.
The summer was busy, but I am getting back into Railroads again. I like all the recent activity with the new SMRI release and all. That creates new excitement for the game and motivates me to create more SMR content. Great job!

The game by default comes with 2 variations for each train car: v1 and v2. Each engine is defined to pull a certain variation of cars. The engines that are released before 1900 pull v1, and the engines that are released after 1900 pull v2. If you have an engine from 1880, it will always pull v1 cars...

Re: One more question - how to add the container train..

I've figured out my previous couple of questions but I have one final one. How do I add the double stack container train to the USA map or any other for that matter.? I have tried following one of the tutorials but the game crashes while loading the scenario. Unfortunatly I know about enough to mak...

You can create any car variation you want. The default game variations are _v1 and _v2 (and the _tgv for passenger cars). I created a version of almost every train car for _bnsf. I did not add a few that we didn't use in our map, but that would cause crashes in your maps. For example, if you tried ...

Re: Problems with the map

Forgive me, there are nine pages and as I was reading through my eyes started to glaze.. ack. This map was really fun. I downloaded it and installed it just fine. But there was one problem. I had to get iron. I didn't see anyplace natively on the map, so in my starting city I built a coal to iron s...

Re: Crash Loading Save Game - Work Around

 I've been playing this map for some time and have had problems loading saved games (as many others reference). The game crash on save game load. I hit on a routine that seems to help avoid the crashes 90% of the time. First load the basin game as a new game. Once the map loads exit to the ma...

Yeah you're right. This is how I always exit free-fly. Don't know why I didn't mention it. :)

Re: Free Camera Mode?

keotaman wrote:...Releasing from the free-mode is a bit tricky; best way I've found so far is Esc., then go to the Retirement Screen, then click Keep Playing, & then unPause.
Or you can just hit Ctrl+F again to leave free-camera mode and return to your paused game.

Here are some tips on starting this map. From any of the starting locations, you should be able to create a passenger route and freight route with the easier difficulties. I always build as much track as I can afford starting out, making sure to buy depots. Then when almost all of my money is spent,...

When I try to load a save game from the main menu after starting the game fresh, the load fails. But when I try to load a save game after starting a new game or right after playing the map, the save loads fine. This leads me to believe that if the game files are still in memory and can be loaded qui...

So why did I create a new _bnsf car variation instead of creating new car types for the _v1 and _v2 variations? 1. Since I changed a number of cars (made them longer and gave them a BNSF paint job), it was easier and less costly to create a new _bnsf variation instead of creating twice as many files...
